Tax filing deadline

For self employed individuals and their spouses or common law partners, the tax filing deadline is June 15. Regardless of your filing deadline, you have to pay amounts owing by the April 30 general filing deadline, or incur interest charges.


Tax Court of Canada, on Notice of Objection

The decision of the Tax Court of Canada in the case of Carrier v The Queen confirms that a Notice of Objection that was not filed on time due to an accountant being busy during tax season will not be accepted later.


The deadline to contribute for your  RRSP is March 1

The deadline to contribute for your  RRSP is March 1. The maximum amount of your contribution is indicated on your latest assessment. Any unused contribution room can be carried forward to future years. Any permitted contribution reduces your Canadian income tax liability.


Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP)

The deadline for making your  Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) contribution is February 28.
